Ways to help your dog live longer

Your dog is great for you and your health, but could you also be great for your dog and their health too?

Not too long ago we spent some time looking at how your best friend might help you live a longer, healthier and happier life. If that’s so, could you do the same for them?

Longer life together

It turns out that there’s quite a lot you can do to help your furry family member live a longer life. What’s more exciting is you’re probably doing a lot of them already. So with just a few tweaks, you could become as good for your best friend as they are for you.

So what can you do to help?

Food and shelter

Start with the basics. All dogs deserve a home, but all homes are different. Keeping your dog warm, comfortable and safe is the first step to helping them live longer. So you’ve probably got this one covered already.

Balance and nutrition

Dog’s aren’t always the best judge of what’s good for them when it comes to diet. So this has to be your responsibility.

Now, this doesn’t mean freshly cooked meals at set times and so on (unless you want to of course). The reality is you have busy lives, and the balance here is as much about diet as it is about lifestyle. But it is up to you to ensure that they get the diet they need. The form that takes doesn’t matter, as long as it’s healthy and nutritious.

Playtime

Exercise is not up for discussion. They need it to live happy lives; you have to provide it. No doubt you already are.

However, a walk doesn’t have to be completely literal. Enjoy your time together. Play games, throw sticks, be adventurous or as adventurous as you can. It will do wonders for their health and their happiness. You don’t have to go crazy or do yourself a disservice, but mix it up a little.

Companionship

Your dog loves you, and they let you know it. Let them know they’re loved too. Show them some affection, give them some attention, make time for them when you can. The benefits of this for you and your dog are huge.

The why?

These are all simple and achievable things you can do for your dog. On the other hand, these will also help improve their quality of life immeasurably. They’ll also keep your dog fitter, healthier and happier.

We believe it’s the least we can do for them, considering everything they do for us. What’s more, doing these things means you get to have them in your lives for longer. It’s a win-win no matter what way you look at it.
